Many people focus on their weaknesses in terms of trying to eradicate them in some way. We are conditioned into thinking this way from a very young age, because the focus is always on mistakes and what is wrong as opposed to what is correct and what is right. Remember when you were in school and the teacher said this is wrong or that is wrong very rarely praising you for what you did right. This thought process is indicative of society in general and the focus is nearly always on what is wrong as opposed to what is right. This social conditioning as led us to believe that we should focus on trying to resolve problems in our lives instead of celebrating what is right in our lives.
The problem with this approach is that we forget about our strengths and as results our strengths are not nurtured as they should be. We all have faults its part of human nature to have faults, but instead of focusing on our weaknesses we should be focusing on our strengths and in doing so the strengths will minimize any weaknesses that we have. We cannot be good at everything and we all make mistakes. When we start focusing on our strengths there is a shift of emphasis of our perceptions which is empowering and leads to greater success in life. Anyone who has ever been successful in life has focused on their strength, just look at all the great leaders and the great icons of our times, all of these people had faults but it was their strengths that made them great and shine.
You may ask yourself what is my strengths? This is a valid question and the answer is in your yearnings, what you yearn for secretly, do you yearn to be a writer or a musician. Your strengths are something that comes easy to you without effort. You can get insights into your strengths when you look at things or activities and think to yourself I want do that it looks easy, it looks fun. Your strengths are activities that you do that you lose track of time when you are doing them because you love doing what you are doing so much.
Some people may have multiple strengths and be a jack of all trades. The key to success is to pick a single strength and focus and nurture that strength explicitly, only by doing this will you achieve greatness in your chosen area. It will take effort and hard work, but because you are doing something that you love doing it won’t appear to be a chore. By doing this you will be focusing on a single strength and all your energies will be focused on that strength like a ray of sunshine being magnified into a single beam, instead of being dissipated into other areas.
Decide now which strength you want to focus on, what activity you love the most and dedicate all your energies to nurture that strength so you excel in your chosen field and become great.
