What would you do if this was your last day on earth? You have one more day to live in this world? Would you spend your day in the same way as you have done before? This is a question that everyone should ask themselves, because it helps to crystallize what is important in your life and what matters the most in your life. The question helps you to focus and prioritize your life to what is meaningful.
I have asked this question to myself many times and i constantly keep asking myself this question – if this was my last day of my life on earth then what shall i do.? My question to myself leads me to God and how i can please God and how i can be worthy of his blessings and be granted heaven. Instead of spending all my time absorbed in worldly affairs i make God and the worshiping of God the central part of my life and everything else revolves around this central theme.
How much time do we waste in meaningless pursuits like watching television or idle gossip, focusing our energies on things that don’t actually matter. Some people like to spend all their time and money on fashion trends, but is it so important what you wear as long as it’s reasonable and presentable? People have the tendency to fall into materialistic traps that ultimately have no meaning and wastes valuable time.
I cannot deny that worldly affairs are important in life and they need to be addressed as well, because our existence on this earth depends on it, but i strive to spend the minimum of my time on worldly affairs and the majority of my time in pursuit of God and how i may please him, because i know that i come from God and i will ultimately return to him.
The pursuit of materialistic things and being too absorbed in these things are meaningless, because we will not take these things with us after we die. Many people spend their whole lives dedicated to accumulating as much money as possible to lead a comfortable life in this world, to buy whatever their hearts desire, but how can this wealth help them when they are dead? Instead of focusing too much on accumulating worldly goods, try and spend as little time as possible on these things, instead dedicate the majority of your time to God. This will help you in your eternal life.
Plan your life so that you do the necessary actions to meet your worldly responsibilities and no more. We all have a tendency to get too absorbed into worldly affairs, we live in this world and naturally we feel that we should strive to make this world better for ourselves. But there is a danger that we spend so much time on this activity that we forget God which is the real reason of our existence. To praise and worship God above everything else. The balance we should try and achieve is to minimise our activities around materialism to the point where we can live reasonably and frugally, so we have shelter, so we have food and we have clothes to wear and have the belief in God that he will provide for all our needs.
I am not advocating that we all stop working and dedicate all our time to God. We all have many responsibilities some of those responsibilities are to yourself and family to ensure that they are provided for and cared for in this world and other responsibilities are to your fellow man. This responsibility is coupled to your responsibility to God and the obligations that you have to the world and to God run in parallel and in unison. The obligations that you have to the world should be kept to a minimum and not obsessed over, so it becomes your whole life, but form a small but necessary part of your life, and the rest of your time dedicated to the pleasure of God. If we strive to get this balance in our life then God will help us in our path to bring us closer to him.
